Take 5
Électrique caught up with the stylish Alexandra Vanthournout, author of the charming Alex Loves.

Can you describe yourself in five words?
Short, slightly bipolar, bubbly, Belgian!
What’s in your handbag?
What isn’t… iPhone, camera, keys, Barclays Cycle Hire Keys (just in case), bits and bobs of make up, umbrella, flats if I’m in heels, heaps of rubbish. The bottom is usually lined with coins – when I need to pay for something I just tilt my bag and do a grab.
Can you keep a secret?
Not usually, no. I’ll be on the phone to my mom within a minute, put it on twitter, facebook and blog ASAP. However I’m currently sitting on the biggest secret of my career ever but confidentiality clauses are stopping me from spilling the beans, so I’ve been good for once!
What’s the soundtrack to your life?
Anything by the National – their music suits for the happiest and most depressing of moments. Perfect.
What’s your karaoke song of choice?
Karaoke is never by choice – I have a major case of stage fright. But when forced (or after enough to drink), then it’s a case of the cheesier the better. I’ve been known to belt out some Roxette, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Spice Girls, Take That…
